Invisible Monsters review

Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 28 April 2007 03:12 (A review of Invisible Monsters)

Overrated... but still a solid novel. Palahniuk's writing style is not for me, although I gave him two chances with this book and Fight Club. I guess I was just disappointed after hearing so many good things from friends...maybe too high of expectations?

About a Boy review

Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 28 April 2007 03:11 (A review of About a Boy)

Hilarious read by Nick Hornby! I've enjoyed the two books I read by Nick Hornby, and can really appreciate his humor. He just makes me laugh and laugh while also writing a great story about characters you grow to care about, like in this book. A great, really funny read.

The Time Traveler's Wife review

Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 28 April 2007 03:09 (A review of The Time Traveler's Wife)

Fantastic book... it really hooked me in from the very first line. It had a very interesting and attention capturing plot line, and the characters were well developed. The writing had the perfect pace for it to be a nice quick read, but not so simple that it is frustrating to read. Generally this is just a great book, and though some criticize it I stand behind it 100% as a good book, and have encouraged all my friends to read it too!

Memoirs of a Geisha review

Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 28 April 2007 03:06 (A review of Memoirs of a Geisha)

In short, Memoirs of a Geisha is a fictional book about the life of Chiyo, who is sold to an okiya as a child to be raised to become a geisha. The story narrates Chiyo's (who becomes known as Sayuri later) story from the time she was sold to the okiya, and all through her life as a geisha and beyond that.

Memoirs of a Geisha is really well written. Arthur Golden made me believe that it was "really a memoir" because of the convincing way he wrote out the story. I thought I would perhaps be bored with the traditions that I had to read about so that I could be informed on all the details of the things geisha went through before becoming a geisha, and even after, but I found myself really interested.

It was slow the first 100 pages, but the pace sped up incredibly afterwards, and I was really happy with the book as a whole. I would definitely recommend it!

Uglies (Uglies Trilogy, Book 1) review

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 25 December 2006 10:28 (A review of Uglies (Uglies Trilogy, Book 1))

This is a great Young Adult book. I finished the whole book in a matter of hours because I liked it alot. I read this right around the time it came out, so my tastes may have changed a bit in that period of time, but when I read it I remember being really hooked.

The Bell Jar (P.S.) review

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 25 December 2006 10:25 (A review of The Bell Jar (P.S.))

I love Sylvia Plath's poetry, but this book had hardly no point to it. It was so promising at the beginning, but it really did seem like the author was just writing out the emotions she was going through. There's nothing particularly wrong with this mostly, it just made for a dull plot.

White Oleander (Oprah's Book Club) review

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 25 December 2006 10:22 (A review of White Oleander (Oprah's Book Club))

This is my absolute favorite novel. Janet Fitch's way of describing and writing is beautiful, and holds my attention any time I open the book again and re-read it. One of the best out there! I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it.

New Moon review

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 25 December 2006 10:20 (A review of New Moon)

I don't know why I even bothered to buy and read this. I read Twilight and didn't like it much at all. The writing style annoyed me and I thought that the romance in the book was way too sappy and unrealistic. It actually reminded me of the things that I used to write when I was 12-13 - over the top romantic stories. I'll admit that it did captivate my attention for a while, but while I was reading it, I was hating it. It's one of those damn annoying stories that you really fucking wanna know what happens next! I'll give it that too.

Anyways, this is getting long. The sequel was just as poorly written but had a slightly better plot. If I do say so myself, I prefer Jacob to Edward. Edward is too perfect. Who wants that?

So, it's a real crap quality novel, but it is a bit entertaining.

Cute movie.

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 4 December 2006 01:01 (A review of Snow Dogs)

I just sat down to watch this randomly since it was on the Disney channel and I was pretty bored. I was pleasantly surprised, but mainly because I had REALLY low expectations for this movie. Of course, this type of movie has been put out before: suitable for the family, cheesy and cutesy humor, and a heartwarming happy ending. But, overall I enjoyed my time watching it. It was cute, but don't expect to be watching a masterpiece if you are going to watch it, because it obviously is not! I just enjoyed it a bit for being what it is.

Amazing Movie

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 2 December 2006 05:40 (A review of Almost Famous)

Everything about this movie is absolutely superb, from the writing, directing, acting, etc. This is one of the few movies that I've ever seen that have made me really escape reality for a while, in complete enjoyment. I stayed away from this movie for so long just because of the hype, but once I finally watched it I was so in love. If you haven't seen this one yet, please do yourself a favor and watch it ASAP. I can't tell exactly the type of movies you would enjoy, but even if this isn't that type of movie you usually see, there's a really good chance that you won't be disappointed that you picked this film up & watched it.
